Free Half Term Coding Events for Students in Years 9 to 13

10 February 2021 - 2 minute read

Lockdown continues to present profound challenges for many young people, and we want to help. Altitude Foundation is hosting two online events focusing on programming, coding and digital careers during the February half term. Students in Years 9-13 are welcome to sign up, completely free of charge!

Code and Send – Tuesday 16th February

During this session, participants will be introduced to Python via the BBC Micro:bit, taught how to programme the pocket-sized computer, and design a game. They will be able to explore the Micro:bit’s capabilities, and will be shown their code in action.  Through this, participants learn or refresh coding fundamentals and are introduced to Human Computer Interaction.

Participants will not need physical access to the devices, because we will use the Micro:bit’s excellent online simulator to develop the code.

My Journey in Digital and Tech – Thursday 18th February

Understanding the opportunities in digital careers right here in the North East is vitally important for students who may want to pursue these opportunities.

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to hear from two of our volunteers, one from industry and one currently studying at university. Our volunteers will talk about their journey into digital and tech, and will answer questions from participants on career opportunities, educational routes, and their experiences.

Students who are interested can find out more and sign up here.
