Introducing our new Outreach Officer, Glen!

We sat down with Glen Maddison, our new Outreach Officer, to find out a little bit more about his first few months in the job, and what he gets up to when he’s not in an orange hoodie.

What’s been the thing you’ve enjoyed most about the first three months in the job?

I’ve loved going into schools and seeing the impact we have first-hand. It’s a fantastic feeling to see people so engaged with content you’ve created. There’s a split second where someone goes from struggling to understanding, and that moment is such a joy to witness.

What’s one key tip you would give to someone thinking about starting a career in digital and tech?

Keep a list of transferrable skills, and update it as you go. Things like communication, adaptability, and teamwork are needed virtually everywhere you can work, and in tech coding and technical writing almost always comes in handy. Having a list on hand makes applying around digital and tech jobs much easier.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I design, rig and operate lights for theatre shows. Most recently I designed for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at the People’s Theatre, which ran in October (and sold over 1000 tickets!). I love the collaborative nature of theatre, with so many people working so hard to put on the best show they can.
